Environment, Safety and Health (ESH) Management

Greatek follows the requirements of international standards, ISO14001 and ISO45001 to build up its environment and occupational health and safety management systems involving continual improvements on procedures, commitments of conformance to customer’s requests and legislations.Greatek also maintain the management system’s continuity by utilizing the Plan-Do-Check-Act Cycle.

CSR Governance Unit and Duties
The governance unit is the Administration Division, which is in charge of establishing and reviewing the corporate social responsibility policies, systems, or relevant management guidelines, and concrete promotional plans, and annually reports its implementation of corporate social responsibility to the board of directors on a periodic basis.

The members of corporate social responsibility promotional team, including responsible personnel from each department who are related to corporate social responsibility activities, implement relevant corporate social responsibility activities in accordance with the promotional plan established each year.

In 2019, establish promotion plans according to concerns of stakeholders for sustainable development, and implement relevant CSR events.

In 2019, donate $30,000 to the Miaoli County Friends of the Police Association, $20,000 to Zhunan Township Shanjia Security Patrol Team.

31-July-2019, the sixth time of the 9th Board of Directors, CSR Governance unit report: We produces the 2018 Corporate Social Responsibility Report with reference to the core options of the GRI Standards issued by the Global Sustainability Standard Board, the scope of which includes the performance and results relating to social responsibility, and present the sustainable development issues that the stakeholders most concerned about. The report is divided into three aspects: economic, social and environmental aspects.

Human Rights Policy

In the "Work Rules," and "Preventive Measures for Sexual Harassment" internal documents and regulations, we have clearly declared protection of employees' human rights, from basic compliance, freedom of choice of career, humane treatment, prohibition of discrimination, and sexual harassment to establishing effective communication channels, a sound salary and benefits system, and diverse training and development opportunities. We promote the freedom of choice of career, in which all work is voluntary, without slavery or human trafficking. Employees are not discriminated by race, religion, skin color, nationality, or gender. Sexual harassment is strictly forbidden. Other than related rules, there is a sexual harassment prevention hotline and email for employee complaints. In order for employees to understand their rights and the company's social responsibility policies and practices, every employee must complete and pass the CSR course during their orientation to complete the induction training. We also have labor policies and ethical policies to provide a friendly workplace environment and promote harmony in labor relations.

According to the Labor Standards Law, employers are not allowed to employ persons under the age of 15. International Labor Organization also forbid employing any person under the legal age for employment, and ensure the physical and mental health and safety of underage employees and prohibit the placement of dangerous or harmful work.

Hired employees are required to present identification for the company to verify their age to further prevent omissions.

In addition to the promotion of the age policy, specific standards are listed in “Work Rules”. In the 2018 audits, both internal and external, no instance of employment of child labor was found.

Environmental Policy

GREATEK ELECTRONICS INC. is a company specialized in assembly and testing services. Since establishment, with the spirit of “Pursuing Excellence & Surpassing Peak”, GREATEK has kept trying the new thing and new form in its management way in order to shape and build up today’s good enterprise image. To protect global environment and share the responsibility of a part of global members, GREATEK phases in ISO-14001 Environmental Management System and fulfill ISO-14001 implementation task in order to enhance environmental management performance so as to coexist with the global environment and to achieve organization’s everlasting operation purpose.

GREATEK commits itself to:

(1) Truly believe that environmental protection is everyone’s responsibility and continually publicize environmental protection concept to whole employees.

(2) Make efficient use of energy and resources, promote energy conservation and waste categorization, implement waste reduction and promote waste recycling.

(3) Echo global environmental protection action & hazardous material management and devote to environmental pollution prevention and continual improvement in order to comply with consumer’s requirements as well as national laws and regulations.

GREATEK makes the above-stated policy, and summons the whole employees as well as those who concern environmental protection to do it together.

Occupational Safety and Health Policy
(1) The management shall comply with the occupational safety and health act.
(2) A human-centered company who provides a safe, comfortable and efficient workplace for employees.
(3) To build up the concept that all the accidents could be prevent.
(4) Continually publicize the safety and health policy and implement its related regulation.

Occupational Safety and Hygiene Policy Implementation and Achievements

Greatek has obtained the ISO 45001 certification and established an occupational health and safety management system according to its operating standards. At present, establish a safe and healthy workplace for employees in accordance with the requirements of international standard for occupational safety and health, and continuously improve the performance of occupational safety and health.

The Company complies with the Labor Safety and Health Act and relevant laws and regulations to establish safety and health regulations for all employee to follow, controls the potential risk and provides necessary protection measures for employee, establishes emergency response procedure in preparation for emergency, holds fire-fighting and disaster relief training every year, implements periodical health examination of employee to prevent and manage occupational injuries and diseases, necessary safety and health training is given to all employees from the first day they come on board, appoints full number of first-aid personnel and safety and health management personnel, to provide workers with safety & health workspace and actively establish staff’s self-protection awareness of safety and health, and has been rated as an outstanding business in the CLA National Labor Safety and Health Group Cooperation Organization and has been recognized with the Model Award for Outstanding Disaster Prevention Teamwork by Council of Labor Affairs.

GREATEK have introduced waste recycling management since 2018, and we’ve recycled 540.7235 tons of recyclable resources. Implementing electricity saving management have saved 2,017,244kwh that turns reduction of 1,117.5t CO2 emission. We’ve also reclaimed 414,075 tons waste water that is more 28,720 tons of water than 385,355 tons in 2017.


High disease risk employee management
According to the “Labor Health Protection Rules”, Greatek provides special physical examination when employees are employed or change operation, also carries out special health examination every year, and performs labor work environment inspection. For employees whose physical examination results are above second class, we offer medical counsel with professional doctors, who will comprehensively assess the nature of their work, lifestyle, family history and other factors to provide improvement suggestions for the employees and the company. For overloaded high-risk employees, we offer health care, and encourage them to participate in health promotion activities. For eligible disease case, we monitor and care every 3 months.

Workplace management

● Chemical Substance Management

Greatek has suppliers provide Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for the hazardous chemicals in the established list in accordance with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) as a safety reference for the use of chemicals in the factory.

● Personal Protective Equipment

To ensure the safety and health of employees and minimize exposure to harmful factors, Greatek has required that employees wear appropriate personal protective equipment when handling hazardous operations.

● Measurement of Operating Environments

Greatek performs work environment inspections every 6 months to understand the real situation of workplace hazard exposure. If the measured test results are abnormal, we will monitor the abnormal areas and make improvement. In 2018, there was no any abnormal result.

Fire and evacuation drills

● Greatek established emergency response team, which is composed of notification squad, firefighting squad, evacuation leading squad, safety protection squad, first aid squad, commanding squad and commanding officer. Every six months, we conduct fire training and exercises for the emergency response team. Annually, we train employees in practical fire evacuation in daytime and nighttime scenarios to increase the sense of preventing fire disaster.

● We also assist production departments in planning regular area evacuation exercises to increase employees' participation in and the company's implementation of emergency response and evacuation exercises.

● Greatek stresses the importance of the labor safety promotion. In 2018, we conducted 46 evacuation drills to let employees learn the evacuation route and the measures that should be taken in case of emergency.


Environmental Safety and Health Target
Regularly set and review the current energy-saving and waste minimizing programs, and establish quantifiable examination mechanism to ensure effectiveness of implementation.
Reduce Wastewater Discharge water conservation.
Response to international issues concerning global warming, Greatek participates in greenhouse gas emission reduction management to successfully reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

(1) Promote energy saving measures, and set 2019 energy-saving goal to reduce 1% of annual power consumption.
(2) Implement energy saving projects to reduce environmental impact and greenhouse gas emission.
(3) Provide education and training to help employees understand the importance of global warming issues, and develop energy saving habits in their daily lives.
(4) Improve energy efficiency, and reduce energy consumption and pollution emissions.

Environmental Safety and Health Implementation and Achievements
We have passed the ISO 14001-2004 and IECQ QC080000 certifications and have acquired GP certificates from SONY and CANON these major international companies; we comply with European Union laws of ROHS as well as REACH.

The corporate conducted its volunteer greenhouse gas inspection in 2017; the total emissions of greenhouse gases amounted to 279,415.012 (tCO2e/year). the total emissions of greenhouse gases inspected in 2018 amounted to 93,049.673 (tCO2e/year), which is lower than that in 2017. We only disclosure the energy consumption of electricity, considering that the result of comparison between the total emissions of these two year reveals that energy consumption, mainly electricity, accounts for more than 90% of the total emissions therefore. Basing on Greatek’s 2018 net sales revenue (NT$ 12,356,434 thousands), the calculated GHG emission intensity for the year is 0.008 (tCO2e/ NT$ thousands).

ESH Objectives and Performance
Greatek proposed feasible power-saving programs every year and we established the Measurable, Reportable and Verifiable (MRV) of manner to verify power-saving effect.

Supplier Management
Through close collaborations, Greatek jointly pursues sustainable corporate growth. The suppliers for our main materials must pass the supplier evaluation and be regularly audited and assessed to ensure that they meet our requirements for sustainable management and the quality of our collaboration.

Supplier Assessment
. Assessing supplier of raw materials every season/six months
. Assessment criteria include quality, delivery, cost, and technology
. Suppliers who fail the assessment are required to improve within a time limit and shall provide evidence of improvement or be inspected on-site.

Supplier Audit
. Major raw material suppliers are audited annually.
. Auditing categories include quality management system, green product system, environment, safety, and health system, and EICC system (The Human Rights of Employees).
. When deficiencies are identified, suppliers are required to submit appropriate improvement plans with specific goals and time limit. Those who fail to achieve the goals in the time limit are disqualified as suppliers.

Water Reuse Management
(1) Industrial wastewater recycling is predicted to reach 100,000 ton in 2013.

The global warming has become a spotlight across the world, and Greatek has put many efforts to control the green house gases and implement the management programs aiming to achieve Greatek’s CO2-equivalent emission reduction purpose

(1) Implement energy-saving programs to mitigate the impacts caused by GHG emission.
(2) Establish employee’s awareness over global warming issue through education and GHG inventory establishment enabling them to practice energy-saving in daily life.
(3) To improve the energy efficiency and reduce the energy waste and GHG emission.

Conflict-Free Metals
GTK commits not to use and purchase the conflicting minerals from conflict areas and regions, and we commit to require our suppliers not to use any conflicting materials and shall conducts related business transactions in accordance with RBA. To ensure that metals of Au, Ta, W, Sn, Co and Mica are not excavated from mines of conflict areas in the Democratic Republic of Congo, GTK requests suppliers to comply with "Conflict Metal Policy" practices as follows:

• "RBA Conflict Minerals Reporting Template" is used for investigation on supplier's conflict metal. GTK also requests suppliers to commit to the prevention over the use of metals from areas with conflicts.

• We will cooperate with supply chain partners to trace the sources of conflict mineral as applicable to our products to avoid potential for metals from conflict mines. We require the suppliers to comply with the following provisions:
1. Ensure the products do not used the conflict mineral from the Congo and surrounding countries.
2. Must trace the source of Au, Ta, W, Sn, Co and Mica included in all products.
3. Suppliers must convey this request to its upstream suppliers.
